We’ve been playing at the bar this weekend wanted to share another cocktail recipe with you.
The Martinez is reputed to be the predecessor of the Martini and Manhattan and was a stylized cocktail that used the bold and often sweet style of gin called Old Tom in the 19th century. A few things about Old Toms that make them particularly delightful in a Martinez cocktail is their abundance of aromatics. So we gave a whirl to making a Martinez with our intensely aromatic Small’s American Dry Gin. The result was not only delicious but shocking. The brown herbal aromatics of angelica root and caraway mixed so well with the sweet vermouth and using blood orange bitters highlighted the citrus elements in Small’s…it is dangerously tasty!

Here’s the recipe:

2 1/2 oz Small’s American Dry Gin
1 1/2 oz Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes Blood Orange Bitters
2 drops Luxardo Maraschino Liquer

Stir all ingredients over ice, strain and serve up in a Martini glass.
