If we listen to advice I like mine from the past. I like my advice from the men and women who have been there, done that and succeeded in difficult times. It’s easy to be a man or woman when the golden era is on your shoulders. It’s times of struggle that define our being, that shine on our inner strengths and give our children strength to change and hope of humanity in the “tomorrow.”

At a lecture in 1941 at Churchill’s alma mater, Harrow School, he spoke in stark terms, without sugar coating the dire situation Britain was in in WWII. Churchill said, “…this is the lesson: Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Words to ponder. I could write for another 100 pages about this quote but it’s much more critical that we  sit and think about what this means in our own lives and use it.

Whatever you do, coach your local baseball team, run a business, bartender,  these words of conviction should resonate deeply. Taking lessons from the past is powerful. The world and its people do not repeat, but they rhyme.
